Direct economic impact of Airbnb in selected countries 2018

Online lodging and tourism marketplace Airbnb has become a global phenomenon in recent years. In its home country of the United States the company's direct economic impact reached a sum of 33.8 billion U.S. dollars in 2018. Outside of the U.S. the largest direct economic impact was seen in France, where it amounted to approximately 10.8 billion U.S. dollars.

Estimated guest spending is based on nearly responses to a voluntary survey sent to a sample of Airbnb guest accounts that had taken a trip to those countries in 2018. No payment or other incentive was provided in exchange for completing the survey.
