Clinical trials are an important part of discovering the benefits and potential of new drugs. Cannabinoid is a drug compound found in cannabis plants that may have many health benefits. It is estimated that use of cannabinoids as a pharmaceutical compound could reduce the use of painkillers and other dangerous opioids. As of June 2018, GW Pharmaceuticals had the largest number of clinical trials registered with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) with 40 active trials under way.
