Mexico: Gini coefficient income distribution inequality 2018, by state

The Mexican capital, Mexico City, had the highest wealth inequality in the country based on the Gini coefficient. This index measures the deviation of the income distribution situation in a given country from a perfectly equal distribution. A value of 0 represents an ideal situation of equality, whereas 1 would be the highest possible degree of inequality. As of 2018, Mexico City had a Gini coefficient of 0.53, well above the national average, which stood at 0.47. On the other hand, the state with the lowest income distribution inequality was Tlaxcala, with a Gini coefficient amounting to 0.37.
