Mexico: population living in extreme poverty 2020, by state
Chiapas was the state in Mexico with the highest average extreme poverty rate in 2020. It was estimated that nearly three out of ten people in Guerrero lived in a situation of extreme poverty. Baja California was the state with the lowest extreme poverty rate, with 1.5 percent, well below the national average, which stood at 8.5 percent. The share of population living in poverty in Mexico amounted to 43.9 percent in 2020.
