In 2018, the area illegally cultivated with coca crops in the department of Norte de Santander, Colombia amounted to around 33.6 thousand hectares, the highest value reported in the indicated period. This represents an increase of more than seven-fold in comparison to 2013. The Norte de Santander department accounted for 20 percent of the illegally cultivated coca area in Colombia in 2018.
