In September 2018, the first injection room opened in the Belgian city of Liege. Six months later, in April 2019, the structure already advised on risk reduction to drug addicts on over a thousand occasions and performed 428 nursing care acts while also providing social guidance.
Injection rooms, or minor risk consumption rooms, are places where people who struggle with drug addiction can receive assistance, sterilized material, or substitute treatment. Although officially illegal in Belgium, these structures also provide a safe and secure environment for drug consumption.
