Opinions on immigration as one of the main issues in Italy 2019, by party affiliation

According to the results of a survey from December 2019, 46 percent of respondents who supported Lega, the party leaded by Matteo Salvini, perceived immigration as one of the main issues in Italy. Moreover, the share of Movimento 5 Stelle (Five Star Movement) voters holding the same opinion amounted to 36 percent.
In 2019, about 11.5 thousand migrants arrived to the Italian coasts, roughly 12 thousand people less compared to 2018. Between January and September 2020, 20.1 thousand migrants reached Italy by sea.
