As a result of a magnitude 5.6 earthquake that occurred on July 3, 2018 in Sarangani, a PEIS intensity level of five was reported in several municipalities of Sarangani such as; Glan, Malapatan, Alabel and Malulngon, General Santos City, Tupi South Cotabato and Polomolok South Cotabato in the Philippines. The intensity scale was based on the PHIVOLCS Earthquake Intensity Scale, a seismic scale that measures the effect of an earthquake on a given area based on its relative effect to people, structures and objects in the surroundings. An intensity scale of five corresponds to a strong effect, with earthquakes generally felt by most people indoors and outdoors.
