Prefectures with lower eating out frequency after tax hike in Japan 2019

According to a survey conducted in November 2019 among locals of the 47 prefectures in Japan, around 40 percent of residents in Shiga claimed to have reduced the frequency of eating out following the consumption tax increase to ten percent in October 2019.
Japan increased its consumption tax from eight to ten percent in late 2019. However, exemptions are in place for the food services industry. While eating in at premises is taxed with ten percent, food items ordered for take-away are taxed at eight percent.
