Y-o-y quarterly employee growth of U.S. banking industry 2007-2022
The work force of the U.S. banking industry increased by several percent in 2022, a notable change from previous years. There was a sharp decrease in the employee growth rate between 2007 and 2009 as the financial crisis forced banks to either let employees go or slow down the recruitment. As the economy stabilized after the crisis, so did the employee growth rate. Between 2021 and the third quarter of 2022, the employee growth rate of the U.S. banking sector increased steadily.
