Unemployment insurance: initial claims per week U.S. January 2021

Owing to the global coronavirus pandemic (COVID-19), unemployment insurance claims have remained high since March 2020. During the week ending January 16, 2021, about 900,000 initial unemployment claims were made. This is a decrease from the week prior, when initial unemployment claims stood at 900,000, also due to the coronavirus pandemic.
