Global share of petrochemical feedstock types by region 2017
The feedstock mix for petrochemical production varied considerably from region to region in 2017. In North America, the most used feedstock for petrochemical production that year was ethane, accounting for 71 percent of the mix, while in Europe, naphtha was the most used compound, with a 78 percent share of the mix. Other important feedstocks in this production process include propane and butane.
