Number of foreign trainee employer inspections Japan 2012-2021
The total number of businesses that were inspected due to suspected labor standard violations regarding the employment of foreign technical intern trainees in Japan amounted to approximately nine thousand in 2021. Within the observed period, figures peaked in 2019 at close to 9.5 thousand businesses. Except for this outlier year, numbers have steadily risen since 2013 when only 2.3 thousand businesses were inspected. While some companies came under scrutiny due to past violations, others were inspected because of tipoffs from workers.
