Monthly number of bankruptcies in Belgium 2019-2020, by sector
In March 2020, shortly after the start of the coronavirus outbreak in Belgium, roughly 150 construction companies went bankrupt. On the other hand, 144 companies went bankrupt in the hotel, restaurant, and catering sector. This is slightly less than in the same month one year before. The sector which did see a slight increase in March 2020 was transport, as bankruptcies had grown by nearly ten compared to March 2019. First indicators of how much the coronavirus has affected companies in Belgium are likely to arrive in the upcoming numbers for April 2020.
