As of 2017, the expenditure on health in Nigeria equaled to 3.8 percent of the country's GDP. Nevertheless, Nigeria's spending on health experienced a slight increase in the past years. In the OECD countries, the average percentage of GDP spent on healthcare was 8.8 percent. The member countries of OECD are, however, mostly high-income countries, whereas Nigeria is an emerging economy and it belongs to countries with lower middle-incomes.
