Financing granted by French banks for fossil and renewable energies 2016-2017
Banks can support energy projects by financing them directly or through the financing of companies active in the sector of energy, in France or abroad. This statistic shows that, in 2016 and 2017, the two years following COP21 (21st “Conference Of the Parties”on climate issues), the main French banks (BNP Paribas, Crédit Agricole, Société Générale, BPCE, La Banque Postale and Crédit Mutuel-CIC) allocated 42.9 billion euros of financing to fossil energies compared with 11.8 billion euros to renewable energies.
