Japan: commercial mail delivery volume by service 2021

In the fiscal year 2021, Japan Post's Yu-Mail was by far the leading delivery service for light-weight commercial mail, with approximately 3.35 billion pieces handled. Kuroneko DM-Bin provided by Yamato Transport Co., Ltd. came in second accounting for around 19.2 percent of the total commercial mail volume. The commercial mail volume increased by 1.1 percent compared to the previous year.

The term "mail" refers to a transportation service where the shipper takes a comparatively light package, e.g., books, magazines, catalogs, etc., and completes the shipment by dropping it in the consignee's mailbox. The mail is not for personal correspondence and is a single piece in one load carrying a delivery service's product name. Mostly, this service serves commercial purposes, e.g., direct mail.

Since October 2016, Yu-Packet shipments are excluded.
Since Sagawa Express Co., Ltd. changed its accounting period, the fiscal year 2017 includes mail delivered by this company in the period from March 21, 2017, to Mach 31, 2018 (376 days).
