Japan: number of correspondence delivery providers by type

As of March 31, 2021, Japan counted 499 class-1 correspondence delivery service businesses, representing the most common service type. Class-1 service is the delivery of correspondence items with dimensions exceeding 73 centimeters or weight surpassing four kilograms.
Reforming its postal services in 2007, Japan introduced permits for corporations to engage in designated segments of the correspondence delivery business on which the public administration formerly had a monopoly.
