As of March 9, 2021, India has secured some 2.2 billion COVID-19 vaccine doses through contracts in total. India chose to purchase vaccines manufactured by AstraZeneca (Oxford), Novavax, and the Russian Gamaleya Institute. However, the overwhelming majority of these doses have yet to be produced and delivered. This statistic shows the size of COVID-19 vaccine contracts based on number of doses secured by countries through contracts with manufacturers. The AstraZeneca/Oxford vaccine is by far the most sought COVID-19 vaccine, especially due to its ability to be stored at normal refrigerator temperatures, while other vaccines need ultra cold storage.

This is a selection of the most prominent vaccines (already approved or on track to be approved) and some countries/regions.
When country contracts include a range of doses to be purchased, we count the lower number. On Dec. 23, Canada’s contracts were updated to reflect those details verified by the government. The Latin America bloc covers all countries in the region except Brazil. The European Union bloc represents the 27 countries of the European Union. The Covax agreement extends to most countries in the world, including many in Africa that wouldn’t otherwise be covered. Jurisdictions without a population figure, such as Somalia and Syria, have been omitted. The Middle East bloc covers U.A.E., Egypt, Bahrain and Jordan. Partnerships involving local manufacturers are listed under the original vaccine developer.
