Th outbreak of COVID-19 in 2020 heavily impacted the global transportation sector. As a result, carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from this sector plummeted. Transportation emissions in the United States fell roughly 13 percent in 2020 compared with 2019. The United Kingdom was also heavily impacted, with transportation emissions falling nearly 23 percent. Although emissions declined in most countries due to strict lockdowns, China's transportation CO2 emissions increased by more than two percent.
