Global transportation sector CO₂ emissions 2021, by country
The United States is the biggest contributor to global transportation emissions by far. In 2021, the U.S. transportation sector released 1.65 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide (GtCO₂) into the atmosphere. This was roughly 700 MtCO₂ more than the second-largest contributor - China.
