As of the beginning of 2021, the vast majority of outstanding German corporate debt was of investment grade rather than speculative grade. This was the case regardless of whether considering financial or non-financial ratings. Investment grade debt is rated 'BBB' or higher, while speculative grade is debt is rated 'BB' or lower. The rating scale contains runs from AAA as the highest, down to C as the lowest.
