With 20,000 hectares (approximately 49,421.08 acres), France is the country with the largest agricultural area dedicated to hemp cultivation in Europe. Over 5,350 hectares of farmland are used to grow hemp in Germany, placing the country on the second step of the European podium.
Hemp the world
A subspecies of plants from the "Cannabis sativa" species, hemp is cultivated for its versatility. Indeed, the stem, seeds, and flowers can all be exploited. The many uses of industrial hemp include fabrics, rope, construction materials, insulation, cosmetics, animal litter, and feed, to only name a few.
On the global scale, Canada is the number one producer of hemp, followed by China and France, respectively. With its high CO2-absorption capacities and the fact that almost the whole plant can be used and transformed, hemp is a highly environment-friendly crop in which many countries are taking a growing interest, which in turn should ensure blooming success.
CBD: the star of hemp derivatives
Cannabidiol commonly referred to as CBD, is one of the chemical compounds found in the cannabis Sativa plant. Unlike tetrahydrocannabinol (or THC), CBD is not psychoactive. Used in different products like oils, crystals, or flowers, it is said to have relaxing properties.
In France, the legislation on those products is strict, and the local authorities' attempt to prohibit them was ruled out by the Court of Justice of the European Union in November 2020. CBD products are currently allowed in France as long as the THC level remains under 0.2 percent.
While their German neighbors are busy testing the medicinal abilities of CBD, French people single out e-liquid as one of their preferred ways to take this product. Worldwide, CBD-based skincare is one of the many cannabidiol-related markets that is currently growing.
