Number of drownings in France 2018-2020
In France, 811 people were admitted to the emergency department over the period between June 1 and August 4, 2018. This figure is the highest number compared to 2019 and 2020 over the same period. The low number of drownings in 2020 may be due to the closure of a portion of pools in June 2020. The strict sanitary measures in swimming pools put in place by the government did not allow managers of aquatic areas to welcome at maximum capacity in their establishment.
