Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, many K-12 students had to make the switch from in-person learning to remote learning. It is estimated that the learning loss due to this shift will cause students to earn 1,785 U.S. dollars less annually overall (when they come of working age, and over a 40-year working life). This effect is predicted to be most significant for Black students, who are estimated to earn 2,186 U.S. dollars less per year when they begin working.
