Awareness of smishing among smartphone users Japan 2022
According to a survey conducted from December 2021 to January 2022, more than 61 percent of smartphone users in Japan neither knew the term nor the meaning of smishing. The term is a portmanteau of "SMS" and "phishing," referring to a form of online fraud in which a legitimate source is impersonated in order to gain sensitive information. Unlike phishing, however, smishing involves simple text messages instead of e-mails.
