Viewers of Olympic Virtual Series in the U.S. 2021

Ahead of the 2021 Tokyo Olympic Games, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced a series of eSports events, with the potential future inclusion of video games in the Olympics in mind. The so-called Olympic Virtual Series would feature video game-based competitions across five different sports - auto racing, baseball, cycling, rowing and sailing. During an April 2021 survey in the United States, nine percent of respondents stated that they would be extremely likely to watch an event from the Olympic Virtual Series, while 43 percent claimed that they would be not at all likely to follow the eSports events.
