In 2020, the majority of special purpose acquisition companies (SPACs) in the United States had two years until liquidation. Over three quarters of U.S. SPACs were 24 months away from liquidation in 2020. A special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) is a company with no business operations which is set up for the sole purpose of raising capital through an initial public offering (IPO), with the goal of buying an existing company.
