Number of convicted and unconvicted prisioners in Kenya 2010-2020
As of 2020, around 86 thousand people faced imprisonment in Kenya. The majority was constituted of unconvicted prisioners, summing up to 56,813 individuals. Other 29,306 people received a condemnation, which varied from less than one month imprisonment to death sentence. Compared to previous years, Kenya's prison population strongly decreased. According to the source, the decline in the total prison population was attributed to sentence reviews of offenders serving death sentences and life imprisonment.
