Percentage of women in national parliaments in Sub-Saharan Africa 2002-2021

In 2021, the proportion of seats held by women in the national parliament in Sub-Saharan Africa increased by 1.1 percentage points since 2020. Therefore, the proportion in Sub-Saharan Africa reached a peak in 2021 with 25.93 percent. Notably, the proportion has been, with the exception of 2014, continuously increasing over the last years.

The proportion of seats by women are the percentage of parliamentary seats in a single or lower chamber held by women.
