Coverage of basic hygiene services in Sub-Saharan Africa 2015-2020, by area
Nearly 40 percent of the urban population in Sub-Saharan Africa had access to basic hygiene services in 2020. That meant that, handwashing facilities with soap and water at home were available for four in every 10 people living in urban areas. The coverage was far lower in rural areas, where basic hygiene services were accessible to 18 percent of the population.
