Number of refugees and asylum seekers in Sudan 2021
Sudan hosts over one million refugees. South Sudanese are the majority. Other common countries of origin include the neighboring countries of Eritrea, the Central African Republic, Ethiopia and Chad. However, people fleeing from wars in Syria and Yemen are also pushed to find safety in Sudan. Nonetheless, the Sudanese are also victims of violence and persecution, and that has led many to escape to other neighboring countries. In July 2021, Sudan counted over three million internally displaced persons. Internally displaced persons are persons who are forced to leave their house but remain within their country's borders.
