Electricity trade from France in Europe 2022, by country
For the first time in several years, France was a net importer of electricity from foreign countries in 2022. The electricity trade balance was 16.5 terawatt-hours of electricity imported to France. That year, France could not meet its domestic electricity demand because this country's nuclear fleet was under revision and the nuclear electricity production dropped. Net importers of electricity to France were the United Kingdom, Spain, and the Western European countries of Germany and Belgium. France was a net exporter of electricity to Switzerland and Italy in 2022.
