Japan: number of patients with uterine fibroid by age

As of October 2020, there were approximately 56 thousand patients aged 45 to 49 years in Japan receiving treatments for uterine myomas, also called uterine fibroids. That year, the total number of patients treated for uterine fibroids amounted to nearly 190 thousand.

The survey was conducted at medical facilities on one designated date set for each institution from three days in October.

The number of patients refers to those who were continuously receiving medical treatment (including those who did not receive medical treatment at medical institutions on the dates of the survey) calculated by the following formula:
number of patients receiving medical treatment = estimated number of inpatients + estimated number of initial visit outpatients + (estimated number of return visit outpatients × average interval since last visit × adjustment factor (6/7))
