Norway: recipients of net ODA in Latin America 2021

In Latin America and the Caribbean, Colombia was the country that received, by far, the highest sum of net official development assistance (ODA) from Norway in 2021. The net sum amounted to 57 million U.S. dollars, followed by Brazil at 20 million and Peru with nine million. Norway has played an important role in the peace process between the Colombian government and the FARC guerilla, signed in 2016.

The source adds the following information: 'Official development assistance (ODA) is defined as government aid designed to promote the economic development and welfare of developing countries. Loans and credits for military purposes are excluded. Aid may be provided bilaterally, from donor to recipient, or channeled through a multilateral development agency such as the United Nations or the World Bank. Aid includes grants, "soft" loans and the provision of technical assistance. The OECD maintains a list of developing countries and territories; only aid to these countries counts as ODA.'

Net sums are the amount received after loan repayments are subtracted.
