After slowing down due to the COVID-19 pandemic, demand for metals grew dramatically in 2021. This led to inflation and an unprecedented increases in their prices. Metals such as lithium and cobalt, needed for the production of batteries, were among the best performers in 2021, with a price return of around 497 and 115 percent, respectively. On the other hand, the prices of palladium and iron ore decreased by 22 and 24 percent, respectively.
