Carbon capture and storage capacity for net-zero industry 2050, by segment
In order to reach the goal of net-zero emissions by 2050, the world would need an estimated carbon capture and storage capacity of more than two billion metric tons of CO₂ per year for the basic materials industry. The cement industry alone would require a capacity of 1.37 billion tons of CO₂ per year. As of 2021, the global carbon capture and storage capacity was 40 million tons of CO₂ per year.
