Combustion plants were the biggest contributor to emissions covered by the European Union Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) in 2022, having released 821.5 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (MtCO₂e). Combustion plant emissions accounted for roughly 63 percent of total verified emissions from stationary installations covered by the EU ETS.
