In 2020, conventional pharmacies in cities at and above prefecture level in China sold more than 28 billion yuan worth of Chinese patent drugs for respiratory system conditions. Drugs treating digestive, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases also generated high revenue. Traditional Chinese medicines (TCM) are commonly used to treat colds, diarrhea, and other common health issues, as many believe that TCMs have fewer or no side effects.
