Since, at least, 2004, the youngest cohort of the urban active population in Mexico has been the age group struggling the most with unavailability of employment for people who are willing to work. The share of urban open unemployment among those aged 15 to 24 years peaked in 2020 at 11.9 percent. That year, urban population whose age ranged between 35 and 44 years had the lowest open unemployment rate across all age groups, four percent.
