Number of leases of new vehicles in the U.S. 1990-2021, by vehicle type

In 2021, there were far more leases for new light trucks than for new passenger cars in the United States. While the number of car leases did not reach one million, there were nearly 2.5 million truck leases that year. This difference has widened a lot in the past years. One of the main reasons for that development was a decline in the share of all new vehicles that are leased in the U.S.
