French companies covered by a union representative or an elected body 2012-2020
In 2012, 11.3 percent of French private companies of ten employees or more had a trade union delegate and 42.1 percent had at least one elected body at the level of an establishment, the company or the economic and social unit (ESU). This was the case for 41.4 percent and 9.3 percent of companies respectively in 2020.
While in general, unionism is more present in the public sector than in the private one, the rate of unionization has been declining significantly since the 1950s.
