Saudi Arabia's annual methane emissions have been rising steadily in recent decades and reached an estimated high of 139 MtCO2e in 2021. That same year, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman announced that Saudi Arabia will join the Global Methane Pledge as part of the country's commitment to reduce global methane emissions by 30 percent below 2020 levels by 2030.
Cumulative methane (CH4) emissions in Saudi Arabia since 1850 reached 4.5 billion metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (GtCO2e) in 2021. Cumulative methane (CH₄) emissions in Saudi Arabia from 1850 to 2021 (in million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent)
