GHG emission change in the European Union (EU-28) 1990-2017, by source This statistic displays the change in greenhouse gas emissions in the European Union from 1990 to 2017, by source. It shows that while the majority of sources actually decreased emissions, road transportation emissions increased by 163 million MtCO2e. In comparison, electricity heat and production emissions decreased significantly. This is mostly due to the move away from coal use, and increased use of natural gas and renewable power sources.
