Walking, cycling and e-scooter fatalities in Germany 2019-2022

The number of pedestrian and cyclist fatalities in Germany dropped from 862 in 2019 to 715 in 2021. In 2022, as traffic began to return to levels similar to those recorded prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, pedestrian and cyclist fatalities also rebounded, rising to 840 in 2022. E-scooters have been recorded separately from other motorized two-wheelers since 2021, and in 2022, ten traffic fatalities among e-scooter riders were recorded.
