Freedom of expression score in Africa 2022, by country
In 2022, Botswana was the leading African country in the Global Expression Report (GxR), scoring 76. Malawi and Ghana followed, scoring 75 each, while Namibia and South Africa came in third place, with a score of 73.
South Sudan, Equatorial Guinea, and Eritrea were the countries ranking at the bottom of the list for Africa. GxR ranks countries based on the openness of the society, with a higher score being given to countries with more freedom of expression.
