U.S: risk tolerance of retail investors 2023

Retail investors in the United States were asked to describe how their attitude towards risk had developed in the past year. In January of 2023, over one-third of respondents stated their appetite for risk had decreased, this is in contrast to the responses given in July 2023, when over 30 percent of investors noted their appetite for risk had increased.

Data was collected via two verified investor surveys. The first survey was fielded in January and had 1,036 participants. The second survey was held from July to August 2023 totaling 1,015 verified retail investors over the age of 18 located in the United States.
