In 2022, the Indian state of Maharashtra had the highest number of farmers covered under the Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme during the rabi season, reaching over 155 thousand. It was followed by the states of Himachal Pradesh and Kerala.
WBCIS aims to provide insurance protection to farmers against adverse weather conditions like deficit and excess rainfall, high or low temperature, humidity, etc., which can negatively impact crop production.
