In 2022, the Indian state of Uttarakhand had the largest area of farmland covered under the Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme during the rabi season, reaching over four million hectares. It was followed by the states of Himachal Pradesh and Maharashtra.
WBCIS aims to provide insurance protection to farmers against adverse weather conditions like deficit and excess rainfall, high or low temperature, humidity, etc., which can negatively impact crop production.
