Main foreign nationalities in Milan 2022
In 2022, 463,591 foreign citizens lived in the metropolitan city of Milan. In particular, Egyptian nationals constituted the largest foreign community with 63,305 residents. Romania ranked in the second place with 49,952 people, followed by the Philippines and China, with respectively 46,151 and 41,091 inhabitants. Moreover, around 28,700 immigrants had Peruvian origin, whereas other non-Italian groups accounted for less than 20,000 individuals each. By comparing these findings with the main nationalities of foreign citizens in Italy, a countertrend emerges. In fact, in the same year, Egypt comprised only the ninth country of origin of nationwide immigrants, while Romania, Morocco, and Albania were the most represented states. On the contrary, except for the eastern European republic, foreigners coming from the two nations constituted less than five percent each of the immigrant population in Milan and neighboring municipalities.
